SB 237
To All Commander Operators,
As you may know, the Federal Aviation Administration has released an airworthiness directive for Twin Commander aircraft. AD 2009-25-02 affects the 690, 690A and 690B models. The AD was released due to corrosion being found in areas of the engine and wing supports on numerous aircraft.
The AD must be complied with by January 8, 2011, or within 150 hours flown after January 8, 2010, whichever occurs first. The AD must also be signed off by a Flight Safety trained technician who has been trained to perform these bulletins.
The AD consists of SB 237, SB 182, and Custom Kit 150. These bulletins may have been accomplished previously on your aircraft and therefore would not apply.
Every aircraft will have to comply with Part I of SB 237, the inspection of the left and right hand upper wing skins and engine support straps for any signs of corrosion. All aircraft will require strap replacements.
Depending on the levels of corrosion, you may need to comply with one of the repair options offered in Part II of the bulletin.
The AD also requires that SB 182 & CK 150 be performed in conjunction with work done on SB 237. SB 182 will install additional wing fasteners on both wings, further securing the engines. CK 150 creates access holes in the aircraft to inspect the engine straps, and also reduces the time needed for future maintenance inspections.
Aero Air has multiple Flight Safety trained technicians ready to go. We were one of the first service centers to perform these service bulletins, and we have the experience necessary to minimize cost and downtime.
There are over 200 aircraft affected, and limited service center resources. Due to the magnitude of this inspection and the limited timeframe, we are encouraging our customers to have this inspection scheduled at the earliest possible date. We anticipate a large number of operators will try to accomplish this inspection at year end 2010 and recommend that you schedule as soon as possible to ensure your position at Aero Air.
Aero Air is currently offering special incentives to those customers who schedule during the first half of the year, with the most valuable incentives for customers scheduling within the first quarter of 2010. Your sales representative can work with you to find the incentive package that fits you best, and answer any questions you may have.
Your sales representative will be calling you in the next few weeks to discuss this AD with you. They will be pleased to work with you and create an individualized plan that works best for you. Feel free to contact your sales rep should you have any questions.
